Hi! (Helpful hint: print this page now for future use or save it in your Favorites with the BOOKMARK link above. To PRINT, click on FILE at the top left of your browser window, then PRINT.) Ebooks are electronic books that you download onto your computer's hard drive, then you RUN them and read them onscreen. Some ebooks also allow you to print pages, or copy and paste text to use elsewhere. There are generally two types of ebooks, Windows(tm) ebooks that usually end in .exe, and Adobe Acrobat(tm) Reader ebooks that end in .pdf. The Acrobat pdf files are universal, you can get a free Acrobat Reader online for any computer operating system in common use. MAC users will want the .pdf version of an ebook. Sometimes ebooks will be sent as plain text or MSWord™ documents, ending in .txt or .doc. If that's the case, just use your word processor or text editor (like Wordpad) to read it. Your computer probably came with Acrobat Reader already installed, but if you need it, or want to upgrade to the newest version, there's a link below to get it. If it's already installed, when you LEFT click on the download link, it will bring it up on screen. NOTE: a large pdf ebook can take a loooooonnnngggg time to come up on screen (one I got recently took over 15 minutes with my dial up 56K modem!) TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM (it may take so long, with your screen initially blank, that you think something is wrong--I get this complaint at least once a month!), INSTEAD OF LEFT CLICKING on the download link, RIGHT CLICK on the link. Then click on SAVE TARGET AS, and you will be able to see the download window on your screen and follow it's progress. When you click on a Windows download link, you get a download window in the center of your screen. The Windows default download setting is "Save to file" which is what you want to do, save the file to your hard drive for future use. When downloading files, always note which folder it is being saved in, and the exact filename so you can find it and RUN it. When the download finishes, click on the bottom left START button, then RUN, then BROWSE to find the folder and file that you noted above. Then click on the filename to highlight it,
then click on OPEN, then OK. If you can't figure that out, click on the START button, then FIND, then FILES OR FOLDERS, then type in the file name, then click on FIND NOW. When the filename appears in the results window, double click on the filename to run it. If you double click on an Acrobat .pdf file and Acrobat Reader™ doesn't appear, you can download the lastest version of Acrobat Reader™ at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html Here's a great alternative to Acrobat Reader™, it's FREE, it's only about a 1 meg download instead of over 20 megs, and it doesn't even have to be installed, it's ready to run. I like it better than Acrobat, and it also has a very handy "typewriter" function that lets you fill in pdf forms and then print them with the filled in info--very neat! This is the Windows version, You can get it at http://goaddr.com/9GQ.DownloadHelp Either type of ebook, as well as most software downloads, may arrive ready to use, or may be in a .zip file which is a compressed (smaller file size) archive file to speed up download time. If your file ends in .zip, it must be un-archived first before you can use it. An unzipped file may contain more than one file when done, for example, the ebook, a readme.txt file with instructions, and other associated files like special graphics or extra software & ebooks. Many internet browsers will unzip the file for you after downloading. If you need a free unzip program, check this one out, it's great! FREE--DOWNLOAD THE EASY TO USE JustZIPit UTILITY ALSO download ACKERPACK (make ebooks instantly!) http://www.topshareware.com/JustZIPit-download-7110.htm .rar is a another compression file type such as .zip you can download a free trial here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm Hope you enjoy your new software, and Be well and happy, Marty Marty's Home Business Center http://goaddr.com/rk.DownloadHelp P.S.--Helpful hint: (Windows users) Create an EBOOKS folder on your Windows desktop for convenient future use. Put the mouse pointer on a blank spot on your desktop and RIGHT click, then click on NEW, then click on FOLDER. Then click on the NEW FOLDER name and type in EBOOKS. When you download a new ebook, use the START button, then the SEARCH (FIND on Win98 and older) button, the FILES OR FOLDERS to get the ebook filename listed on the screen, then RIGHT click and DRAG the little icon to the left of the filename over to your EBOOKS folder (or a blank spot on your desktop), and release the mouse right button. Then LEFT click on CREATE SHORTCUT HERE. This will place a link to the new ebook in your folder for future use! ============== Need more help using your computer?
